Natalia,
Hi, thanks. Yes, I am greek from Athens, but I live real far (Chicago)*. Ever been to this area? And, yes the blue refers to the greek blue sky/sea.

*I hope Chicago is still on the same planet :-)

Καλημέρα.

Εσύ;

Έβλαψες ή έφερες εκτός εαυτού κάποιον;

Δυσκολεύομαι πάρα πολύ να το πιστέψω.

Κατά τα άλλα, συμφωνώ με τον Heliotypon!

No, I have never been to USA, but I will confess that its my dream to visit the american dream :). Who knows, some day...

Yes, Chicago is on earth, although being the headquarters of Obama, now it will fly to the sky

Natalia,
Nice to meet you too. Chicago is cool but also real cold these days :-) I have been a big time Obama supporter here for a long time now, starting a few years before he run for president. Lets hope he will deliver and will not become one of them. Have a happy new year.

Natalia said...

blue wind

A lot of people all over the world have great expectations from Obama.

Happy new year to freezingggg Chicago

Nevum said...

Thank you Natalia, happy new year to you too. The good news for me is that although Chicago is freezing, I am in Mexico on the beach for the holidays. Cheers.

Natalia said...

allright
New Year in Acapulco or Mazatlan?

The blue Aegean wind has turned to the Pacific golfstream :)

enjoy your holidays

Nevum said...

Cancun. Yes blue pacific golf stream on New Years day :) Far better than the -20 temp in Chicago now. I also hear that the Athens weather was not that great today either.

Natalia said...

Athens has improved today, 14C and a little sunshine...

-20C is quite unknown to me. Do they exist such temperatures? :)

Cancun is on the Atlantic, isn't it?

Nevum said...

Yes, Cancun is on the Atlantic site at the edge of the Golf of Mexico. In fact, it is right across from the northwest site of Cuba.

As for -20, that is frequent in Chicago. With the wind it feels worse. But after a while you get used to it. Even if you have greek genes :)

By the way, I noticed in your profile that the Requiem of Mozart is your favorite music. It happens to be mine also, or at least in the top 2 or 3 of mine. And it is so different than the rest of Mozart's music. Such an incomprehensible power and unlimited inspiration. Truly amazing.

Natalia said...

Now I see

Chi is the windy city, so the blue wind combines the Mediterranean breeze and the lake Michigan "Hawk" eh?

Mozart's requiem is a masterpiece, especially the choir part in the sequence, from dies irae to confutatis and lacrimosa...
and if you think that really he composed his own requiem, without knowing it, then its getting more powrful

καλησπέρα

Nevum said...

Well the origin of the nic name is not exactly that, but that was a cool guess :)

As for Mozart, he was definitely sensing his death and that is why the requiem is so different than anything else he ever wrote. It is an incredibly powerful composition. Do you like the rest of Mozart? Is he your favorite composer altogether?

P.S. Tomorrow I am on my way back to Chicago. My next posting here will most likely appear frozen.

Natalia said...

At least I tried

I like Mozart. His work suits my way of thinking, the sounds of his music make me relaxing. I like instrumental and operas the same.

I also like Chopin, Bach, Mussorgsky,Ravel, Beethoven and some others

My favorite opera? The wonderful Nabucco of Verdi

back to -20C?

Nevum said...

Mozart was a genius. A very prolific genius. Have you been to Vienna?

I also like Chopin (very sad case) and Bach, Ravel and, of course, Beethoven. But my very favorite is Bruckner. Are you familiar with him?

Verdi is very cool and that is a great opera. But when it comes to opera, I am primarily a Wagner fun.

P.S. Back in the cold. Surprisingly though it is only -10C today and no snow. Much better than what I expected. Pfeww.

Natalia said...

I have been three times to Vienna and Salzburg. Do not be jealous, but I have seen the barber of Seville in Vienna opera house!

I dont know much about Bruckner (complex and harmonious symphonies eh?)

Wagner is exceptionally good, if you bear in mind that he wrote the libreto as well, for almost all his operas. Have you seen to daxtilidi ton Nibelungen? all the 4 parts?

Do you like Maria Callas? in Casta diva?

weather here will be getting worse this week. I hope the temperature will be over 10 plus I mean

Nevum said...

Nice, I have been also exactly 3 times in Vienna, but never seen the barber of seville in the Opera house and no, not jealous :) Anyway, they could call Vienna Mozart City instead.

Yes I have seen the dachtilidi ton Nibelungen, amazing huh? And who would not like Maria Callas?

As for Anton Bruckner, another guy who spent a lot of time in Vienna, in my opinion he has probably written the most powerful classic music ever (esp. symphonies 3 and 8). It is so interesting that I like him so much, because he was a very religious man, while I am totally agnostic and deeply dislike religion in general. He was inspired somehow to write tremendously powerful music. If you ever get a chance buy his symphony #8. Reading the last poem on your blog, I am sure you will find it interesting and probably inspiring.

P.S. Today it was snowing here again. Driving was anything but fun.

Natalia said...

I listened a part of symphony no 8 yesterday and parts of some of Bruckner's other symphonies.

I knew some of them, although I didnt know they were composed by Bruckner. They have been played in the New Year's annual concert in Vienna, the past years, as I remembered.

the religious parameter you mention, is quite interesting, although I dont evaluate it as a factor, to define my preferences in art.
Same can happen in painting or sculpture or literature...

totally agnostic you are eh?
I have good relationship with religion.
Thats peculiar as well, because I like Kazantzakis very much.

Nevum said...

Oh, yes. Like you I also dont use religious parameters in the evaluation of art. I just find it fascinating how religious Bruckner was and how much I like his (religiously) inspired music.

Yes, totally agnostic here. I believe religion has been only source of terrible things through the centuries. Never something good. Just my opinion, of course.
